Bio
I am a Canadian who volunteered to join us vfo es in July, 1966. I arrived in Vietnam on 23 January, 1968. After in country, I was assigned to Alpha Co 2/12, 25thID. On my first day in the field I was separated from m unit and spent 5 weeks with Wolfhounds. After arriving at m own unit in March of 1968, I was mostly ammo bearer assistant gunner and nearly full time point. I later was then RTO for Platoon LT, prior to taking over squad in May of 1968 as an acting sergeant and one of two tunnel rats in our Company.. I left my unit permanently in Sept. 1968 due to medical complications in September 1968. Although squad leader I couldn't get promoted because of teh amount of shake and bake sergeants we had. I ahd two under me in my squad. Finally got promoted when reassigned to 5th Mech at Ft Carson after I got out of the hospital after almost three months.
Military Experiences
Started in May 1968
Squad leader
Prior to going to Vietnam, I was an OCS holdover at Ft Dix. Not being a college grad I didn't get a class date like my Brothers, so I was assigned to HQ Commandants Office. We worked directly for the Commanding general and Post Sgt Major at Ft Dix. After six months and still no class date, I resigned. I could have stayed where I was, but was getting bored so I got a job as a Game Warden at Ft. Dix, and that was my job until leaving for Vietnam.
