Preventive Medicine Specialist, Bioenvironmental Engineering
Military Public Health work...Part of duty involved radiation detection and decontamination. Was assigned to Moron AB in October, 1965. On January 18, 1966 was called to Base commander's Office at 0200, Informed of Broken Arrow, told to pack my gear and ordered to drive to Palomares. Arrived there late afternoon, that date. During first 2-3 week, I monitored and charted plutonium contamination, primarily at site #2 and in the pueblo. During the clean up, I took air samples downwind of the operations and monitored the site of the barrel loading operation. Following that, I screened for plutonium as the men were clearing camp. Returned to Moron April 1966. I am the longest serving airman who participated in the Broken Arrow. Received Air Force Commendation Medal.
