Bio

I grew up in Fort Worth. My dad was a lawn sprinkler repairman from England and my mom was a sales rep from Idaho; both Air Force brats whose dads were stationed at Carswell AFB in Ft Worth. I'd wanted to be a soldier since I was born. My grandfather on my mom's side had been a big influence too. I graduated from a Roman Catholic high school, though I'm an Anglican. I was on the track team.

Military Experiences

Dec 2004 - Mar 2007
Fire Support Officer
Responsible for a fire support team of 2 forward observers and FSNCO as crew of a Fire Support Varient (FSV) of Stryker vehicles. We deployed to Iraq in August 2005 and planned and cleared fires for 2 x 120mm mortars employed in Anbar Governate. I was also in charge of company intel and implementing other effects. I was the tactical second-in-command and occasionally commanded the troop in the commander's absence. We served in Anbar, Nineveh and Baghdad. I was promoted to captain while in country and retained same unit postion thoughout. I had published an essay in the journal Field Artillery in 2005. Unit was reflagged under the 25th ID while deployed.
Apr 2004 - Dec 2004
Platoon Leader
Organized with 4 howitzers divided into 2-gun platoons, I received our 2 x 155mm howitzers (M198) and we conducted multiple live-fire exercises in summer and winter months. During live fire, I served as platoon leader for the entire battery. I verified the lay of the guns with the safety circle, oversaw operations and oversaw the tactical position and movement. I was promoted to 1st lieutenant in April of 2004.
Jul 2003 - Apr 2004
Fire Support Officer
I was the officer responsible for fire support team of 2 forward observers and FSNCO and supervised the training the 12-man mortar section. I helped oversee the expansion of the new unit, receiving new soldiers and conducting winter training in Alaska with limited equipment. We conducted live fire exercises with 81mm mortars.
