Battalion Operations Officer (S3)
Upon the departure of the previous S3, I became the Operations Officer in fact, continuing the functions of the Assistant S3, but including responsibilities for commanding the battalion in the absence of the commander and executive officer. I served as a member of a selection board for officer candidates and administered the Oath of Office to Army nurses accepted for commissioning.

Assistant Battalion Operations Officer (S3)
As the regular Operations Officer had never served in a recruiting capacity before, I was made the Assistant Operations Officer but had principal responsibility for the Operations and Guidance shops. I prepared the monthly production management plan, determining the conversion ratios needed for unit mission success. I also toured the battalion area to examine recruiter zones for integrity and compliance. I also represented the Army at civic functions such as educator conferences and science fairs. I also attended mission assignment conferences, ensuring that missions to recruiting stations were assigned in a fair and equitable manner.

Recruiting Company Commander
Commanded a recruiting company of five major (4 or more recruiters) and three minor (3 or fewer recruiters) recruiting stations located in eastern Indiana. Inspected the stations to ensure productivity in accordance with the production management system of the time. Also served as a point of contact for recruiting potential Officer Candidates and accession to the Warrant Officer Flight Training program. Cultivated community influencers among school officials, community leaders and other youth influencers such as sports coaches or veterans. Achieved distinction as Top Recruiting Company, Top Reserve Recruiting Company, Top Recruiting Company for Special Programs, two years running.

Company Commander
Assumed command of A Co, 19th Bn, 4th Training Brigade, that was reflagged to A Co, 4th BN, 46th Infantry. Commanded a basic training company whose graduates would later serve in combat support and combat service support roles. actively sought trainees scheduled to attend Warrant Officer and Commissioned Officer candidate courses and mentored those soldiers to exceed basic training standards. Taught courses in the UCMJ, basic financial management, Law of War and topics of military history/esprit de corps. Achieved a graduation rate of 98% of initial intake with more than 70 percent of new soldiers exceeding training standards.
