James Marchinke, Bio
James Marchinke enlisted in the Marine Corps under Aviation Helicopter Maintenance; duty station was MCAS New River, North Carolina; three tours in Beirut, Lebanon, a Caribbean Mission Exercise and a Mediterranean Training Exercise; transferred to Army Aviation Helicopter Maintenance; deployed to Bosnia with the 24th Aviation Brigade as the senior enlisted in charge of aviation operations; deployed in support of special operations missions in Russia, Ireland, England, and France; Army duty stations included Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Illeshiem, Germany, Fort Polk, Louisiana, Fort Hood, Texas; Geibelstadt, Germany, Fort Drum, New York; positions held from private to sergeant first class; retired after over twenty years of service receiving the Meritorious Service Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal, several Army Achievement Medals, six Good Conduct Medals, Master Aircraft Crewman Badge, Drivers Badge with Wheel, 3 Overseas Service Ribbons, Rifle and Pistol Badges and other Unit Awards ; over eighteen years of dedicated service to the Department of Maryland American Legion holding all leadership positions at Post, County and currently Commander for the Department of Maryland American Legion; holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Resources Management ; James is happily married to the former Zelda Clark for over 33 years, has three sons and two granddaughters; his hobbies include Volunteering, Photography, Fishing and Gardening.
After retirement from the military from Fort Drum, New York James was employed as a Case Manager with the State of Maryland Department of Juvenile Services for four years, missing the military way of life he tried to get back in the military but was denied due to his service connected disabilities, signed up with a civilian contractor and deployed to Iraq as a Maintenance Foreman until notified that a position was available assisting Veterans with their employment needs and was offered the position as the Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist for the State of Maryland and currently on his 14th year of State service.
James is the Chairman for the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery Commission, member of the VFW, Midland Sportsman Club, AF&AM Lodge # 161, ANIVICUS and is the Commander for the Department of Maryland American Legion.
