I first took the oath of enlistment in October 1983, and retired as a First Sergeant (12Z5M2S) in August 2006. I was a career-long Combat Engineer, and held every leadership position from Team Leader to First Sergeant (I was the 1SG of the 18th Engineer Company for 42 months, the Army's first Stryker Engineer Company at Fort Lewis, Washington).
