Born & raised in Portales, NM. Drafted while 12 hours short of my master's degree in math in 1969. Did basic at Ft. Bliss (El Paso) and infantry AIT at Fort Ord, CA. Went to VN in July 69, was assigned to Alpha Co, 1/46, 196th LIB, Americal Division, headquartered in Chu Lai. Spent most of my year on and around LZ Professional fire base. Got out of army Jan 71, back to school to finish degree.
