Bio
I retired from the Army in 2011. I spent my first four years in the Regular Army and eight years in the Michigan Army National Guard. I am proud I served in two different Components of the Army because of the unique perspective I gained through the experience. My purpose on RP is to share what I learned through my experience in and out of the military. I also want to learn from other veterans.
Military Experiences
Oct 2003 - Apr 2011
Recruiter
Served as a Recruiting & Retention NCO from OCT 03-APR 11. All of this time served was during the Iraq & Afghanistan Wars. This was a very challenging mission on both a personal and professional level. Many challenges were faced dealing with the difference in culture between the 82nd Airborne Division in the Regular Army and the Michigan Army National Guard. It was a rewarding experience as I helped shape the Michigan Army National Guard with some of the finest recruits the Lansing, MI area had to offer the US Army National Guard. I also shared some 82nd Airborne style Discipline with fellow Guard Members.
Aug 2002 - Sep 2003
Squad Leader
This was my first assignment in the Michigan Army National Guard. Served as 4th Squad Leader of the Motor Pool Section in Riding Hall. Served on the unit's Quick Reaction Force in case of emergencies or civil disturbances. My last two months of duty were spent on Active Duty for Special Work to administratively prepare six enlisted members for Officer Candidate School.
Apr 1999 - Aug 2002
ULLS-G Clerk
I had the highest score on the APFT in my unit for three years running. I was always selected to carry the Battalion colors during Brigade Level morale runs and during All-American Week. I also served as an Alpha Echelon member in supply platoon in times of high alert. Most notably during the 9/11/2001 Terrorist Attacks on the WTC. Awarded the Army Achievement Medal 4x times.
Feb 1999 - Mar 1999
Paratrooper
Graduated Airborne Infantry School 6 MAR 99. Very tough experience. Lots of running and old school discipline given to me and fellow airborne trainees.
