Arrived back at Shaw just in time to be sent one one more deployment. Met more great EOD troops and enjoyed my time. I always told my bosses were ever I went that when the AF was no longer fun for me then it was time for me to get out. While on the deployment just after the arrival on Shaw I was informed that my name was place on the next deployment leaving a couple months after my return. I let my boss know I was no longer having fun and that it was time for me to retire. Spent my next year trying to be as useful as possible, I always hated ROAD individuals and hope that no one ever thought of me as that.

Andersen AFB was a great place to be as an EOD Tech. The numerous WWII ordnance calls, the overall mission and being able to support the POW?MIA recovery mission in Vietnam. I went on 2 missions and spent 30 days each time in Vietnam. On both missions we were able to collect enough evidence of the service members death to close the cases and allow the families of those members some closure. During the last month I was there the discovery of some WWII chemical munitions it kept us very busy along with Tech Escort out of VA. That was one hell of a job to be involved in.

Got to Bergstrom just in time to settle down and then Desert Shield start and 4 of the 6 of us deployed. I was one of the "lucky" 2 that stayed. It was hard enough with 6 people running the many programs for the squadron but when it dropped to 2 it was crazy. Frank Joy and I spent most nights at the shop, because it made more sense than driving home just to get called out on a suspect package. HQ also decided to do a major inspection just to see how units were being affected by the deployments. Frank and I would make time each week to go to each of the 6 families home to take care of yard work and general maintenance. Even though the guys were missed greatly it was nice to spend time with the whole FAMILY, however brief it were.
