Bio

Mr. Paul D. LaBarre (Major, USAF-Retired) Biography My name is Paul D. LaBarre and I’ve been involved with higher education since 1983. Currently, I am an adjunct faculty member at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) in Manchester, N.H. I’m also a native of Nashua, N.H. and graduated from Nashua High School in 1960. Since then, I’ve earned a unique background in the military and in higher education and I have developed strong teaching skills because of my experiences I retired from the military in 1987 as Major LaBarre after serving for over 27 years. I began my career in 1960 when I enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After serving one tour of duty with the Navy as an Aerographer’s Mate (meteorologist), I enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served 10 years as a meteorologist. During that period, I worked with the famed Hurricane Hunters and Typhoon Chasers. I logged over 4,000 hours of flying time as an Airborne Weather Observer, Instructor and Standardization Evaluator. In 1973, I was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant -- USAF and became a Minuteman Missile Combat Crew Member. I later became a Minuteman Crew Instructor/Evaluator and then was selected to be a senior staff Missile Instructor at Vandenberg AFB, CA. While there, I became one of the Air Force’s experts on U.S. and Soviet Strategic System capabilities. I later used that knowledge as an instructor at the Air Force’s Squadron Officer School, Maxwell AFB, Ala. and as an Air Force ROTC instructor at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell and at Daniel Webster College. I spent my last three years of active duty as the New England Regional Director of Air Force Academy and Air Force ROTC Recruiting. While in the USAF, I obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in Social Science from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science from Chapman College, Orange, Calif., and a Master of Arts Degree in Psychology from Pepperdine University, Malibu, Calif. Since I retired from the Air Force, I held several staff positions at Daniel Webster College (DWC). Over my 34 years there, I was an Assistant Director of Admissions (5 years), Director of Academic Support Services (4 years), and Director of Enrollment Services --- overseeing both admissions and financial assistance offices and staffs (5 years), Director of Alumni Relations (5 years), Director of Parent Relations and Retention (5 years). In addition, I was also involved with DWC athletics and was an assistant baseball coach, head hockey coach and served as the Director of Hockey Operations for 25 years. For nineteen years, I was also the Director of Aviation Career Education (ACE) Camps at DWC and over a thousand students benefited from this unique and well organized nationally acclaimed program. Finally, I served as an adjunct faculty member at both DWC (10 years) and SNHU, (4 years). I’m now semi-retired and teach only at SNHU. Over the years, I have taught sociology, psychology, political science, and public speaking courses. My wife Beverly and I have been married for over fifty years. We have two children--Patrick and Lisa, one grandson, Josh, one granddaughter, Malori and her two-year-old son, our great grandson – Dexter. We recently moved to my wife’s hometown of Caribou, Maine where our daughter, granddaughter and two-year-old great-grandson also live.
