Squad Leader
Mortar squad leader. After leaving the headquarters of my infantry battalion, I was put immediately in the the Primary Noncommissioned Officers Course / Combat Arms (PNCOC/CA), and upon graduation was brought out into the field (the battalion was then in ARTEP qualification), promoted there, and assigned to lead a mortar squad. The previous squad leader (a SP4) was not too happy with this, but we eventually got along OK, after a bit of conflict.

A training exercise in winter conditions at Ft. Wainwright in Alaska, simulating defense of the Alaskan Pipeline. We were there for 3 weeks, and the warmest it got was 25 below zero! Brrr.
