I have recently retired from Veterans Affairs. After my service in the Marine Corps, I served as a civilian Police Officer until I was injured in an on-duty Motor Vehicle Accident. After several years of surgeries, I returned to school and earned my AAS and BS in Paralegal Studies. I then went to Law School and earned my Juris Doctor. I have 2 children and 3 grandchildren with a 4th due in July.

PFC - Military Police

MP Co, Security Bn. | MCB Quantico, VA

On 23 March 1981, President Ronald Reagan came to Quantico to ride his horse. When I arrived for duty at 0700, I was presented with a map of the base and ordered to have an MP in dress blues at each blue pin and an MP in cammies with an M-16 at each green pin. I was ordered to call in every MP assigned to the base. After assigning all MPs, one pin remained uncovered. I advised the Top Sgt. I would need to take that post. He instructed me to assign a WM to dispatch and take my post. We guarded the President while he rode his horse and then were invited to the stables afterward to meet the President and have lunch with him.

Military Police Officer (MP)

On 30 March 1981, one week after guarding President Reagan's horseback ride, he was shot in Washington DC. Late that night, all; MPs were ordered to report to PMO and draw our M-16s. We were assigned posts along the main road and a road leading to the Brig. We were instructed not to place a magazine in our rifles nor to chamber a round. Soon, a caravan of FBI vehicles approached surrounding the Beast, the Presidential Limo. As the limo passed, we could see it was the same limo the President had been in when he was shot as it had the bullet hole in the window. We later learned that limo contained the attempted assassin, John Hinckley, who would be held in our brig.
