So, I'm reaching out here to gain some information. I'm awaiting orders to Rucker for WOCS, then Flight School. Has anyone been through recently? My question is, as a Reservist, do I have to make a PCS move for my family to Rucker? I own a home near JBLM, being that I'm in the Reserves, I'll be coming back to WA once I'm done. Am I able to just keep them here, with the BAH rate and just go to school myself? I appreciate any feedback.

OBC/BOLC/IERW is going to be a PCS order due to duration. With that said, you can live on the economy, get some place cheap, drag a trailer into a trailer park, and keep your home back home. How you choose to live will be “big boy rules.” As long as you aren’t living in GOVT quarters, you will get BAH. The BAH will be for Rucker, not HOR. But how you split it will be up to you. A lot of soldiers (specifically Guard and Reserve) don’t sell the houses in their home states... they just choose to live very economically while they have a mortgage and a lease.

Two words, Daleville Inn. 1 Mile from the Daleville Gate (where academics are), 1/2 Mile to the simulator complex. It isnt fancy but its dirt cheap for a 1br 1 ba "apartment" and the staff is lovely. Everything you need for a geo bachelor setup and nothing more. Rent included power, water, trash, internet and cable. Best decision I ever made.

SGT Chen-Turner, you can absolutely choose to PCS without your family, but keep in mind that if they choose to join you at a later date, it will be on your dime. I'm currently waiting for orders to flight school as well and will be attending as a geographical bachelor but more than likely I will end up living on post with a roommate to save BAH. As 1LT Dixon has stated, you'll get BAH based off Rucker, not JBLM AND you will not get family separation pay either if they choose to stay in WA. All in all I would talk this over with your family and decide what makes the most sense financially, you dont want to put yourself or your family in a bind while you're at flight school.

OP: You can request the BAH waiver to get HOR rate if it is higher and you have a mortgage. My roommate has a similar situation and submitted the request up to finance. This particular request goes up to the pentagon, from what I’ve been told, so there are some constraints/stipulations. PM me and I’ll see if I can get some more information for you.

Also, as a reservist, your PCS may occur after completion of WOCS(I don’t remember if that was NG and AR or just NG). Either way you will get at least 10 days of PTDY prior to going in as a WOBC-Hold or starting your WOBC-A. If you are looking to have a roommate or do any housing on-post, I recommend joining Army Aviation 2019 on Facebook (for roommate) and getting onto Corvias list(for housing).

Great! Thank you SSG and Mr. Wagner. I'll definitely reach out about this, I know being a Reservist makes my situation a little different.
