Well, words are violence in today's America -- Sadly, the rest of the world doesn't care

SSG David Gentile - I got smacked in the face for deploying the claymore too slowly -- but I was never slow again...

Crazy, if you can't handle some yelling, how are you going to make it in combat...I was 17 years old when I showed up at Benning in 1985, the "Shark Attack" left no scars and the enemy does not care about your feelings.

I see the wisdom behind this. Lots of new privates in the 1980's arrived at units I was in and kept personal problems to themselves because they feared the NCO's calling them weak or unfit. They just suffered in silence or worse the issue would grow and fester and get far worse then when it was at the start. I think the new approach is better and like they always do, the Army will find some other stressor to compensate for loss of the shark attack. Very rare for Fort Benning to remove one area of stress without replacing it with one equal or worse.

SSG David Gentile - I journeyed back to Fort Benning Infantry OSUT In 2007 which was far later than my OSUT of 1982. Hand to Hand combat was gone and replaced by Brazilian Jujitsu which was far more tiring and challenging. Drill and Ceremony largely gone from the program but they kept barracks and wall locker inspection standards. Rifle and Bayonette as well as Pugil stick training was retained. Rifle marksmanship expanded. Urban Combat and MOUT expanded. Color Posters of how to recognize a roadside IED posted in the barracks. Road Marches retained along with Crossed Rifle Ceremony / Bonfire at end of challenge Road March. They did an excellent job of modifying the program but keeping it tough and still very much recognizable to what it was in 1982.
