I am currently trying to see what my chances are for a vision waiver to become a flight medic. I am also curious on if they will PCS my family to fort sam for the 9 months of training. Also at what point do you get orders to your medevac unit to be able to prepare for the PCS move? Any current information on the flight medic program will be greatly appreciated. Help me escape being a medic for MP's.

I know plenty of backseaters who wear glasses, medics and crew chiefs alike. That shouldn't be much of a problem. I don't know where the Army draws the line between PCS and TDY though.

Why do you need a vision waiver? Yes your family is PCS’ed with you to Sam. When you get your projection to your next medevac unit varies class to class. Almost everyone has a projection by the time they’re graduating Fort Rucker (the last phase) however sometimes things get messed up and you don’t. Expect to be a holdover after school is over for awhile. I’m about to graduate Fort Rucker and I don’t have a projection yet.

My left eye is corrected to 20/100 right eye is 20/20. I am just suspecting that will give me an issue. How was the program? I'm really hoping I get this opportunity.

I hope you do as well, it was an excellent program, graduated today. There are waivers available for class 3 flight physicals, you will need one. I hope it works out for you. The program is split into 3 phases. Phase 1 paramedic, phase 2 critical care and phase 3 fort rucker, the operational / aviation phase. Phase 1 and 2 are at San Antonio, phase 3 is of course fort rucker.
