I am currently in the position of mulling over a switch back to the active component. I currently have nine and a half years time and service with the first half of that being active duty. I just picked up SSG in February 2021 with a waiver due to covid and I have a school date for ALC in January 2022. Would I lose rank making the switch if I do not meet current promotion point standards for E6 on the active side? Also if there is anyone that has made the switch from national guard to active duty and has some insight on the process, it would be much appreciated!

You may be required to have a rank determination by HRC, nobody here can answer what your rank will be.

You have nine years for pay, but on active duty you will have four or so years in service, not nine

I'm pretty sure that grade determination won't be E6 if ALC is not complete.

I was going to say “SFC (Join to see) should know the answer here” — but I looked and he had already answered it. Ha!

Interesting question. I don't have the answer but I do have an opinion, you should be able to keep your rank. Having said that I wish you well whichever direction you eventually go.

I have never switched, however I have assisted Soldiers in doing it. Of those I helped, none of the NCOs kept their rank. Keep in mind this was 20 years ago. You really need to speak to an in service recruiter.
