This position serves as a vital part of the VA Police Services often serving as the face of the VA and as the first person a Veteran or visitor encounters when entering a VA facility. The incumbent provides security and assistance to Veterans, patients, employees, contractors, volunteers, affiliates, visitors, and others who frequent VA facilities daily.Duties:
Work Schedule: Will be required to work on weekends and holidays. Will be required to work 8, 9, 10 or 12-hour shifts depending on the staffing need and rotate through each shift in a fair and equitable manner. Will be required to work both day and night shifts rotated in a fair and equitable manner.

The Senior Police Officer protects Veterans, volunteers, and others on Departmental property, U.S. officials, other individuals, and him or herself during any given situation against threats to personal safety when force becomes necessary to enforce laws and regulations. Additional duties includes:
Carries firearms and other weapons, intervenes when necessary to deescalate situations, and determines when and how much force must be applied.
Conducts vigorous and inquisitive patrol activities which assure random patrol pattern, meet special protective service requirements and provide maximum visibility in all assigned work locations to deter against crime and provide a secure environment for the employees, patients and visitors.
Detects and intervenes in criminal activity.
Responds to calls for police assistance, irregularities, and unusual or suspicious circumstances.
Investigates incidents and takes steps to mitigate further risk and resolve situations.
Provides emergency response coordination as needed.
Conducts investigative stops on suspicious person(s) authoritatively and tactfully to determine the nature of their business and to provide appropriate direction or control.
Maintains high state of physical condition and appearance when wearing the police uniform in accordance with established policy.
Performs drug and contraband intervention techniques and provides training to those areas where contraband identification and knowledge is imperative for the staff.
Completes initial police reports on incidents occurring in a timely and accurate manner ensuring that all pertinent information is reported.
Executes other law enforcement and security related duties as assigned by the Chief and/or Supervisory Police Officer.
Performs enforcement work such as traffic control, detective operations, and patrol work.
Performs other duties as assigned
This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and may be posted up to September 29, 2023. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be May 5, 2023, with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st and 15th of each month. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.
