The Scientific Computing Division strives to deliver innovative computing and engineering solutions that enable Fermilab to achieve its scientific mission. Within the division, the Frameworks, DAQ and Electronics (FDE) department is responsible for designing engineering hardware, firmware and software to advance technologies for Fermilab detectors, accelerators and Data Acquisition Systems.

Fermilab’s Scientific Computing Division seeks a highly qualified candidate for a Staff Engineer or an Engineering Physicist II position to work on Detector research and Quantum Information Science (QIS). The successful candidate will develop hardware, firmware and software in support of the main projects of the lab such in support of Neutrino physics, Cosmology and Quantum Information Science. QIS is a growing research activity for Fermilab and the Department of Energy.

We Are Looking For

Master’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institute or physics or relevant subject. A PhD degree in the field is preferred.
A strong record in high-speed mixed analog and digital hardware design. Experience in experimental physics will be considered a plus.
Strong skills in firmware development and tools for high end FPGAs.
Strong knowledge of Instrumentation for testing characterization and debugging of high-speed analog and digital electronics, including FPGAs. Knowledge of Radio Frequency electronics will be considered a plus.
Knowledge of data analysis techniques.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Must be able to work in a team environment.
Must be able to see the big picture and pay attention to details while performing problem solving analysis on a flexible range of tasks.
Strong analytical, creative and independent problem-solving skills.
Must be able to contribute optimally within a diverse workforce and upholds Fermilab’s dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion!
