Sat on the Green Ramp numerous times during 1970 while assigned to SFTG. Glad I never experienced anything like the air crash of 1994, and it’s truly sad for those that lost their lives, were injured, or otherwise had their lives altered.
Photos were taken on the Green Ramp at Pope AFB on 16JUL70. It was my 9th jump and we jumped the treacherously underpowered Fairchild C-110 Flying Boxcar.

I hated those planes, CSM Chuck Stafford. Upon rotation, we’d all lift our feet up so the plane could leave the ground! ;)

That'll Make Your Stomach Churn, One "L" Of An Accident & Loss Of Life.
A Similar Event Happened Around Late 1962 At Little Rock AFB, Arkansas, A B-52 Crashed Shortly After Becoming Airborne. Evidently What Had Occurred, The Ground Crew Screwed Up When They Attached The JTO Bottles On The Craft, The Carriage Came Loose And Flipped Around, Driving The B-52 Into The Ground. Obviously All Members Lost Their Life, Then All Hell Broke Loose At SAC Headquarters.. As I Understand It, The Base Commander, A Full Bird, Was Rifted To An E-8 And On Down To Everyone Involved, And Some Were Handed Their Walking Papers. ~ They All Paid A Price.
