I got out of the Army in 2011, honorable discharge. I do have a standard Veteran ID card from the VA, if that helps at all. I was just curious whether I will be able to get on base at Marine Corps Base Hawaii if I try to swing by. Would I be able to shop at any of the stores on base as well? Reason I ask is that last year, I tried to go visit a friend (O-5) on Schofield Barracks where I had also served, and I couldn't even get on base at all. Thanks in advance for any feedback here. Cheers and hope everyone is doing great this evening. <3

Veterans who are eligible to obtain a Veteran Health Identification Card must use this credential for base access and to use these privileges. The card must display the veteran's eligibility status, whether that be service-connected disabled, former POW or Purple Heart recipient.

Yep, service connected disabled Veterans, POW, MOH all qualify. I think those that retire fully after 20 years also have some form of access too.. maybe someone else can clarify that part. As a disabled Veteran, service connected, myself I have access wherever I go.

Does Your VA Card Say You Have A Service Connected Disability ?
If So You Can Get On Base And Shop At The Exchange.

That Was A Typo In My Earlier Reply.
I Am 100% Service Connected And My Wife And I Have The Brown DOD ID Cards.
However One Of My Sons Has A 30% Rating From VA And He Goes On To Ft Steward To The Exchange All The Time Without Any Issues.

SPC Randy Gibson - If you are service connected, you need to go to the base to the visitors building or admin gate entry building with your wife, your proof of marriage, ID and proof of service connected injury. They will issue you an actual ID for your access and then give your wife a dependents ID as well so she can get on base without you having to be there.

BTW, an update to my above reply... Your proof of disability is called your 'Award Letter' which officially gives your disability rating and other information which is a legal document. That is what you need for proof of the finding of being disabled. If you are 100%, as I am, it will also say full and permanent or similar which means it is not revocable nor does it require any further examination for your case.

Have you looked at the Website for MCB Hawaii? As long as you meet the requirements per the page you should be fine. There is also a contact number if you have questions.
