I'm Pv2 Covington. I graduated from QM AIT in Ft. Greg-Adams (Previously Ft. Lee) and i was a holdover for three weeks. I was just given orders (late due to IPPSA integration) I have HRAP for 2 weeks (today is May 18) but my report date isn't until July 14th. Does that mean I can report early? Do I have to report Immediately after HRAP (Hometown Recruiting Assistance Program)? I have to drive from NC to TX, so i planned on reporting immediately after HRAP regardless, but I would need like 3 days..because that's a huge move...i need time, funds....i have an entire family to move. also, my lease ended in my apartment...so my wife moved the house into a storage unit...we've been in limbo since graduation. (We didn't renew the lease, as we assumed my HRAP would kick in immediately after GRAD and then I'd be off to Bliss, but that wasn't the case)

Look at your orders. Not all Army orders say "early report authorized" - but about 98% of them do. If it says you are authorized to report early, do so! Especially if you have nothing good to do while on leave. Save those precious leave days for a good cause down the road.

PV2 (Join to see) drive time should be baked in. It has been a while since I was in, but the JFTR (Joint Federal Travel regulation - the thing that determines travel time) used to say 400 miles for one day, 350 for each additional. 401 miles was 2 days of travel time. I am guessing that has gone up slightly.

If you have no leave days, go right away. You won't be in trouble for not reporting early, but you will be charged leave days, and you don't want to be in the negatives.

As you have not mentioned, is your family on your orders? If so, the advice given is good. If not, get busy. Also, if the movers are to pick up your HHG then you will need to coordinate with them once transportation assigns the movers, directly informing them of the circumstances around the storage of your HHG.

As for money, you are funded appropriately to make all of this happen, you need to set up your DEROS appointments for out processing asap. If not, the only early report you will have will be without your family. It is important that you get to out-processing asap.

Yes Sgt. My family is on my orders. I didn’t do anything in regards to out processing, but I’m driving to FT bliss directly after HRAP with my family and things. Worst case, I’ll get a storage unit and speak to on base temporary housing about temporary housing while I wait for the list.

PV2 (Join to see) Number one I served for over 30 years almost half of that a Ms a Command Sergeant Major. Since I am retired you can call me by my name, if you choose to respect my time in service you can call me SGM, or CSM, but not Sgt.

If that’s your plane, make sure you have the truck weighed empty and full at the same weighing station. Since you are choosing a ditty move you will get reimbursed for much of the truck if not all, and of course hotels, food etc.

Safe travels. Fort Bliss and El Paso was a good assignment. Large city with a small town feel, great people and lots to do. If I were you I would hold out for on post housing. Much easier I’m on the wallet. Travel safe Pvt.

CSM Darieus ZaGara I deeply apologize CSM. At the time I wasn’t aware that through text it was required to specify the level of NCO. Please forgive my earlier ignorance, as I meant no disrespect.

Travel time is part of when someone PCSes. If your orders say early report is authorized, then go report after HRAP. If you don't have leave days, then just report after HRAP especially if the orders say early report authorized. If you just go straight from HRAP to your duty station you shouldn't get charged leave.

Also - I'm pretty sure the recruiters at the recruiting office you'll do HRAP at should be able to help you figure it out. I mean I'd assume they could...or should.
