I'm at my 2 year mark in Germany, and I recently called my branch manager. I was super excited to be given the choices of Knox and Wainwright (can you feel the sarcasm?). I'm not really interested in that part of Alaska, so does anyone have any info on Knox and the surrounding areas? I spent a month there in '07 for WLC, so I don't know much of anything. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

SSG,
Fort Knox really has a lot to offer. Much more than what you know! You have the option of living on post but the surrounding areas are growing and there are plenty of nice homes to choose from.
Louisville is about 25 mi north of Knox and they have some of the best restaurants around! There is a lot of culture in the surrounding areas and lots of things to do.

If you have a choice and you want to live on post choose 'Anderson Greens'. It is single family and much larger than the rest of the housing...a lot of us are in duplexes in Maple Ridge and Oak Park. Not bad but not as large either.

Knox is not bad, if you like outdoors type activities it is great (I fish a lot). As everyone has already said it is centrally located so you can get to the major cities within hours.
