I just had to drop out of the 18X program due to marital issues, postpartum depression after our daughter was born in April this year. My wife does not want to PCS with me. I'm still waiting on orders, but I'm just trying to figure out if I can still do geographical bachelor within the continental U.S. or if I need to fight for orders to Germany or Italy. We currently cannot afford to lose our BAH

I have geo-bachelors staying in the barracks receiving BAH for their dependent's location. Had to submit paperwork to the CG of the installation. So it's still happening, somewhere. I would check with the base you anticipate getting orders to.

There is what the AR states, DOD states, what post policy is, and then what happens at a specific unit.
Based on what you have posted, you are NOT a geographical bachelor, that said, ask at your new unit, if they allow it, take it and run, just know it could stop any month without notice.

No, I'm not right now because technically still in a "training" status, so my geo bach status would just be dependent on my gaining unit is what I'm gathering

Bear in mind this is from 2016. My takeaway is that you need to contact your Base Housing office to get their input/guidance.

I read that article as well, that's why I was curious if anyone has had any experiences with living off post and still receiving the Geo Bach status. But, thank you for your input.

SPC(P) (Join to see) - My apologies for not being able to help further. My geo-barracks experience was 20 years ago.
