You can get a local phone “huawei” it’s a sprint or some other big name knockoff for super cheap at the exchange. They also sell SIM cards (and minutes) at the same stand. Or you can get WiFi if you have an Apple phone and use it in your clu, hooch, barracks, or tent depending on the berthing.

I’m looking more into the data or WiFi aspect. Just trying to find an alternative to getting internet vs paying a arm and a leg for the WiFi there at the base

If your phone accepts SIM cards the data buy purchasing minutes is your only other option. The WiFi is affordable if you split it with people you live with again depending on living arraignments

Issue is that you'll need the right simcard.
My advice is if you need cell coverage for on-post and you are not issued one (many are), get a local phone for peanuts.
If you need to call home, skype, talkatone, facetime, etc all work just fine.

You have to buy local service. If you can use T-Moble on WiFi calling your should be good. I have Verizon and would calm to the states regularly while on WiFi. Also got a lot of spam calls too.
