Nato's western military alliance has responded to the Russian-backed invasion of Ukraine by increasing troop numbers on Ukraine's border but it seems there is no political will to send those troops into Ukraine to fight.
Ukraine is not a member of Nato, although it wanted to be, and the issue of Nato expansion eastwards was one of the reasons President Putin gave for being unhappy with what he saw as Western interference in Russia's sphere of influence.
Kurt Volker, a former US ambassador to Nato, says Putin is rebuilding the former Soviet Union and that Nato should be helping countries not in Nato such as Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova. He says that Putin's assault on Ukraine is proof that he doesn't want the Western order of world security, and that he is assuming the right to dominate countries in the region. He says that as individuals, we should be concerned for the fate of Ukrainians, but as states, see this as a threat to society and democratic values.
"He's basically rejecting the European security order that's been in place for 50, 70 years."

Putin and 4 or 5 other countries seem to be the only ones who think recreating the Soviet Union would be a good idea.

It's shame to see Ukraine being attacked and every country is on the sidelines.

Really time for some of the non-NATO democratic countries to step up to base. Ya they have small military forces but they would certainly be capable of setting up and enforcing no-fly zones in western Ukraine under the auspices of the UN while NATO resupplies Ukraine.

This reminds me of Kosovo. I think this is the right conflict when UN observers watched as Muslim men were herded in buses for extermination. They did nothing but observe the war crimes.

So the brave Ukranians will go all-out, alone against the Russians, and will have sacrificed themselves for their home without help from the West. Then Russia claims a major foothold in Europe and full access to The Black Sea (even if the holder of the 1936 Accord, Turkey, tries to control Russian access). So the bravest dominoes in Eastern Europe will fall to Russian expansion, and only then NATO will awake and put up a fight to prevent further Russian expansion? Won't Russia go after Sweden and Finland? Are we waiting for brave fighters to fall and only later will we get involved? So the Free World is damned if we enter the fight now or later, but if we enter it now, we'll have some gutsy fighters alongside us...
It's Divide and Conquer, but not by Putin. NATO is doing it to itself, and Putin's taking advantage of hesitation.

Yes, I believe they will go at it alone. Some countries give military aid, but I fear the Ukrainian military will face attrition.

Trump the military genius has changed his tune about Putin. A few days ago, he was celebrating Putin's. Now he is condemning Putin.
