Orders to Italy next month. Is a passport needed to buy a prepaid sim card in Italy? Will my military ID work instead?

You going to Italy!?!! Lucky!
I have to check NROWS soon!
I would assume your military ID card would work since I think you can buy those pre-paid sim cards at the NEX on base.

Nope. You can go to any cell phone store and purchase a Sim card with a drivers license (at least that's how it is in Naples)

If you're headed to Naples, you can get prepaid SIMs and phones in the Support Site and Capodichino Exchange (Vodophone Store). Family and I have used them for about six moths. Pretty happy with the price and the service. Don't recall that they needed a passport, but definitely a couple forms of ID.

Sure! I just popped next door into Vodophone - they confirmed, just need a photo ID. They can generate your codice fiscale (Italian version of a business ID number) for you. By the way, stay away from the plans. Month-to-month is cheaper and less prone to leaving you with big bills to pay....

CAPT Don Bosch, EdD - Many thanks Captain really appreciate you going the extra mile for me.
I'm only going to be in the area for 2 weeks so definitely looking to buy just one month or whatever. Thanks again. V/R
