During my second Afghanistan deployment, on September 25, 2011, I suffered a gunshot wound to my lower abdomen. This marked the beginning of a long and painful journey. I sustained a fractured hip, lost 20% of my colon, and suffered a damaged femoral nerve, resulting in permanent disability. After six surgeries, thousands of hours of physical therapy and over 40 inches of scars, my health is progressing rapidly.
Outside of the unusual circumstances of my injury, there’s a lot we all share in common that I’m here to discuss: the fear of transition and uncertainty of life after service are two things that were front of mind for me. Through my experiences, I’ve found perseverance to be the most powerful ally. I’m excited to join you on the 14th to answer any questions you may have about me, talk about the career path I found and how it relates to my military experience, and encourage you that the outcome you desire may always be within your grasp.

COL Burroughs...the transition has been and incredible journey filled with ups and downs. However, I have learned so much about myself and what I want out of life. I feel very fortunate to be as lucky as I am. Throughout the thread I will talk more and more about specific times from my recovery and the lessons I learned.
Thank you for all of your work with veterans organizations. Multiple organizations stood by family and I when we needed them most.
