Veterans Day is one of the most important days of the year for me. But this year, as I look forward to honoring my fellow Veterans, I’m also resolved to do more to help our community.
When I was discharged from the Marine Corps in 2007, I struggled to reintegrate into civilian life. I struggled to find a meaningful, mission driven career like the one I had when I was in the military. Most importantly, I became disconnected from my brothers and sisters in uniform.
Over the course of this pandemic, we’ve seen a surge in Veteran unemployment. https://www.bls.gov/news.release/vet.htm Despite these numbers, there are more companies than ever seeking to hire us. Veterans, we can help each other.
My team at ReferVets is partnered with hiring managers from some of the most respected companies in the U.S. Interest in Veterans is still high. These companies understand the value that we bring -- from attention to detail, to mission orientation, to our never-quit attitude. The jobs are there; the problem is they don’t know where to find us.
That’s why I’m thrilled to introduce you to ReferVets https://refervets.org a new app that allows Veterans to apply for great jobs at great companies--while also providing the tools and platform to refer each other.
I’m encouraging you all to sign up and join our movement. You can find yourself a new career opportunity, but better yet, you can also help others who need one.
Sign up is simple. If you are a veteran, or know a veteran looking for work, or simply wish to join the cause, please visit us at ReferVets https://refervets.org and sign up for an account. Think of your battle buddies and Veteran friends who could use a leg up -- with a few taps, you can change their lives.
Thirteen years ago, I hung up the uniform and moved to the 1st Civilian Division. I was fortunate enough to be referred for a position in the financial sector. The hiring manager “just wanted a Marine.” That simple referral was a catalyst for my career. It provided a life for me, my family, and has ultimately led me to start this mission ReferVets where I have an opportunity to give back to our Veterans.
ReferVets helps our community provide those same referrals and opportunities, but at-scale. Let’s end Veteran unemployment and help these companies get faster and more direct access to our talent pools. Vets, let’s help each other.
