I've seen many of our Veterans go without benefits they have earned because someone might be denying them based on misinterpretations. I would like to see how many of our Veterans who are on here feel they would have benefited from someone being able to take the fight to the V.A. on their behalf and advocate for them.

I am retired Navy and decided to return to school to finish my BS in OCC Safety. I was on the Voc Rehab Program since returning to school in 2010 and just graduated in May 2014. In the middle of my school time my VA Rep for VOC Rehab transfered to Washington DC and we (the VOC Rehab students) were left with the worst VA Rep I have ever encountered. He has either lost or misplaced paperwork (Birth Certificates, Eligability documents etc.) and claims that I am not eligible to continue on into a Masters Program, which had been documented into my records and promised as part of my education benefits. The original VA Rep that transferred prepared the documentation to continue on into a Masters program with all of this outlined and I signed it. The new Rep claims that he doesn't see it in my records etc. Unfortunately I was RIFed from the job I had in the town where the University and VA rep were and am working in Alabama now. I continued Online with the same University so the VA Rep stayed the same and am unable to return to try to get to the VA office to straighten this out. Sounds like a huge screwijng to me, not being able to conatinue my education so I can be more competiative and hold a higher position doesn't it. Please let me know what to do here?

Most of the times, veterans do not know what they can claim as a disability, do not know how to read their medical records, and as many of us old timers, try to be stoic. I personally have had PTSD since Desert Shield/Storm, yet never let it prevent me from deploying.
Having someone help you go through your records and properly prepare your documents is important. Having someone advocate to VA is a waste. Rules are rules, and if you do not meet the requirements, no amount of advocating will help.
