Best job I ever had! Depending on the unit, you'll definitely gain some life experience real fast. One day your an immature kid, the next day your responding to the realties of suicide and domestic violence. The community outreach through patrolling is fun as you get to meet the families on post and make an impression on kids. The satisfaction of knowing you have the authority to do good around post makes a difference. The downside is the rotating schedule and long hrs. The lack of gratitude from other solders. It's only lonely profession.

Law enforcement, by definition is a lonely profession. Thank God for your Brother & Sister MP's and our families.

I've been an MP since 2006 and I love it, we are just mounted Infantry. The structure is fantastic but standards are high

Mounted infantry lol, when our unit deployed to Basra, one of the guys brought a Mobil infantry flag from star ship troopers :D so true; we only brought it on one patrol

I was, in the 95B days, when MP school was at Ft. Gordon, Georgia. Was drafted, just the way things shook out in 1969. Up side. A wide range of duties much like civilian police, (although the civies will never admit it), along with the tactical side of things. Convoy escort, checkpoint security, ambush patrol. Down side. You'll be universally disliked by every other MOS, even after you get out. I've been out 50 years and still get grief. My son's active duty Army, (Armored Cav), and he gives me the business. One area I would advise you to stay miles away from and that's confinement. I was TDY in Long Binh Jail for three months. Worst duty I ever pulled. Good luck.

I was 95C but in the Reserves and stayed in the States but I remember one thing that was great about it. The sound of the cell door sliding closed is one of the worst sounds I think of EXCEPT WHEN YOU HAVE A KEY. That was one of the ploys that we would use to either tease smart-ass prisoners or when a TOP would bring in a young private that he wanted to "straighten out" before he ended up in a cell. We would put the kid in the SallyPort and close the door. Then we put him in the farthest quietest cell in the facility, closed the door, holding the key so they can see it and then walk away. 90% of the "kids" never come back.
