THE CALIFORNIA COLLEGE STUDENT who stabbed four people at UC Merced carried an image of the black flag of ISIS according to a report, as well as a handwritten manifesto with instructions to behead a student and multiple reminders to pray to Allah, yet authorities continue to insist Faisal Mohammad’s motives had nothing to do with radical Islam.
Dunleavy likened it to the case of Alton Nolen, who allegedly beheaded a former co-worker at a food plant in Oklahoma City in 2014. While he was angry over a workplace issue, his actions were likely the result of radicalization, said Dunleavy.

"ISIS is not looking for a few good men; one crazy will do," Dunleavy said. "This is what a lone wolf looks like."

The printout of the ISIS flag was reported Tuesday by the Merced Sun-Star, citing a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity on Monday. The official also said Mohammad’s manner of dress during the attack and some of the websites he may have visited in the days leading up to the incident ultimately led local authorities to hand control of the investigation over to the FBI. Warnke confirmed that decision, saying “new information” had been discovered on Saturday about Mohammad, who was shot and killed by police during the episode.

If the government admits it, the ramifications of it would be far reaching... We have enough idiots here in the US who will act on that and begin "killing in self defense" every "foreigner" they can, whether they are of middle eastern decent or not... The "If the government can't protect me from them, then I will protect myself from them" mentality... Not to mention that admitting it would also give groups like ISIS and other American hating organizations "street cred" in their favor as we would be admitting to them, ourselves and the world that we are weak and vulnerable and they can hurt us anytime they wish...That just a couple of many reasons why not. I'm not saying I agree with the "pretend it's not there" attitude of the government, but...

Admitting that the U.S. is under constant terrorist attack by home-grown and foreign-born terrorists could unnerve the populace enough to take the defensive actions you suggest; and admitting we are impotent to stop Boston-type bombings, beheadings, and knifings might also unintentionally encourage other 'lone wolf terrorists to continue their plans because there are no effective means to stop domestic terrorism.

The current administration would rather have his head in the sand then admit that there are terrorist actions taking place on our soil. They are being naïve and deceitful.

Why is so much effort expended to disprove terrorist motives, i.e., Ft. Hood massacre and now the UC Merced stabbings?

It is an attempt to prevent backlash against Muslim Americans.
Some people think Americans are not grown up enough to handle the truth, and they are correct.
I don't believe it is as politically motivated as is espoused by some. Legacy and all that. But there is undoubtedly a political angle.

“Honor Violence Measurement Methods,” a study released earlier this year by research corporation Westat, and commissioned by the U.S. Department of Justice, identified four types of honor violence: forced marriage, honor-based domestic violence, honor killing and female genital mutilation. The report, which estimated that 23-27 honor killings per year occur in the U.S., noted that 91 percent of victims in North America are murdered for being “too Westernized,” and in incidents involving daughters 18 years or younger, a father is almost always involved. And for every honor killing, there are many more instances of physical and emotional abuse, all in the name of fundamentalist Islam, say experts.
“Typically seen in the form of physical or emotional abuse, rape or kidnapping, honor violence also includes harmful practices such as female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced marriage. In extreme cases, murder,” said Stephanie Baric, executive director of the AHA Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by women’s rights activist and FGM survivor Ayaan Hirsi Ali. “In sharp contrast with domestic violence, families and communities often condone honor violence, which makes it more difficult to identify and stop.”

Political correctness and the fear of labeling Muslims as terrorists are the primary reasons CPO Andy Carrillo, MS. This nation has long welcomed immigrants into its borders. However it has been a long time since a religious group has presented itself as a threat to this nation. Radical Islam is a specific threat and radicalized Muslims are the more general and harder to track down threat.

TSgt Jaime Jones - We know the Fort Hood shooter was a radicalized Muslim motivated by his understanding of the Wahhabi doctrine of Islam.
The UC-Merced knifer [not sure that is a word] has ISIS supporting material in his apartment - that information was released today.
Certainly not all murders by Muslims in this nation amount to terrorism.
Those girls or women who are killed in honor killings because they stray from the family understanding of proper behavior most likely felt terrorised but that is not the same things as non-state terrorism such al Shabab, Boko Horan, and ISIS display on a wide scale.
