GEN Tommy Franks. Enlisted as a Private.
GEN John Shalikashvili. An immigrant, he was drafted as a Private.
GEN Walter Krueger (WWII) was Private Krueger during the Spanish-American War.
MG John Clem. Started as a drummer boy in the Civil War and is the youngest NCO ever, at about 12 years old.
BG Chuck Yeager. Enlisted in WWII as a Private. Retired in the 70s as a BG
Bonus:
President James Buchanan was a Private at the tail end of the War of 1812.
