Who here has read the history of the Philippines and their ties to our country?

Of course by now, most of you have heard about the tragedy in the Philippines and that there are potentially 10,000 dead and missing.  But for the younger generations you may or not be aware of the Bataan Death March and Corregidor.
Long story short, we fought along side and died alongside the Filipino people.  And I want to let people know how close are countries are, particularly with the older generations.
Keeping this in mind, they are in an hour of great need.  My heart literally breaks for these valiant and inspirational people. Many who love America more than a lot of Americans.  These Filipino take a fierce pride in their service and if anyone here can do anything, even cards or letters, it would but strengthen our ties.
Kudos to the Marines:  They have already landed in the Philippines aboard C-130s. Â

I read a book about the five biggest "game changer" battles of the U.S. Navy in the last 250+ years. One of those battles was the thumping that Commodore Dewey put on the Spanish fleet in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War. Very interesting read and it included an overview of the US involvement post-war.

I know we bombed the crap out of Manila in order to "Help" them. We also introduced better education and baseball! I did a paper on the NCO influence in the Philippines and I really can't remember a whole lot about it. But, I know we have done some crazy stuff over there.
