I think it depends on what is important to you. I was stationed at Ft. Richardson in Alaska and thought I was gonna hate it, I was wrong. The barracks were new. Rarely worked after 5. Cold, yes but the wildlife I saw made up for it. Many who I keep in touch with look back at our time in Alaska as the best time of their lives, many chose to live there after getting out.

This is nearly an impossible question to answer. Think about it, how many people have been to all the Army bases in the world? Or even half? A quarter? As much as Soldiers travel, it's a big army and 90% of us see only a fraction of our footprint. You will not get a good answer to this question because people don't have the ability to give you an accurate answer; it's all subjective, not scientific. You would need a team to actually visit each base and rack and stack bases according to some point system.

The better question is, what should I look for when determining the quality of an Army base?

And on that I would tell you to look at leadership. See who is charge of the post, housing office, community programs, etc. What always matters is people. Think people-oriented first, and material-oriented second.

Thank you for your response. The reason why I worded the question the way I did is because I haven't even gotten assigned a first duty station yet. I have not even enlisted yet. So I don't have a choice in what to "look for" essentially, they're going to send me wherever they want. So I just wanted to hear about others experiences with different bases. But I do not disagree with what you said.

Depends on the person and what they like. For every base somebody likes there will be just as many people that dislike it.
