This is a fun survey to get an idea of how diverse we are as a service. Different regions of the US have different cultures and traditions, different speech patterns. However, it is interesting how much we grow as a person and service member when we are exposed to the world and other's views. So where do you come from?

I was born and lived for two years in Coffeyville, Kansas. Then my dad reentered the Navy. First duty was in Argentina, Newfoundland followed by Norfolk, Virginia. I remember a family trip to Lake City, Florida one summer to visit my mother's family. My grandfather and two my uncles worked in Jacksonville during the week and returned home for the weekends. Every weekend included two nights of booze and poker. One Friday my cousins and I went to the liquor store to buy the booze for that night ( we were all in grade school at the time ). It was a hot humid day so I asked the store owner for a drink of water. When he heard me say "water" he stated that I had to be from Kansas, the southeast corner to be exact, based on my pronunciation. He was known to be gifted in dialects.

From NORTHERN New York State originally, a couple of miles from Fort Drum, where the Army trains and maintains the 10th Mountain Division. Had I been born a few miles further North, I would have been Canadian,
