I first got my Texas hunting licence last fall. I am going to get one this year. I didn't get the chance to go out anywhere because evidently you have to have a lease or know someone that has land to go hunting. I also heard that public hunting areas are not the safest places to go.

Away from the cities always worked best for me deer hunting.
Try to contact some of the local farmers, give them a hand bailing hay or some other such chores for the privilege of hunting their property.
When I hunt other people's property I tithe 1/3 of the meat from each deer I shoot.

That's actually a good idea anywhere you go. Offer the landowner a portion of the kill and/or help with something they might need done in order to be allowed to hunt on their land.

I believe most ranchers will also tell you to "kill em all!" When asking to coyote hunt and possibly feral hogs.

SA Harold Hansmann - That is a fact, and a lot of times if you offer to shoot a doe they will be more willing to let you hunt.
