It appears that we are headed back to the Philippines. The locals are looking forward to the influx of income. While the prospect of a prolonged struggle with China is a grim one, what other benefits can you see in something like this?

Patton adored MacArthur. They met during WWI. It was from MacArthur that Patton found the resolve to be the badass that he was!

Well noted, but simply because a great man looked up to another great man does not negate the higher greatness of him. If Seaman Timmy inspires me to be greater that Patton is Seaman Timmy the real hero?

There is a reason Truman had to Can Him. He was Nuts. Lots of Balls and Bravado and that actually does count for something but I'll pass on the Extremism. Types live MacArthur could easily have brought about "Dr Strangelove/Or How I learned to love The Bomb".

Where does it said we are going back to the philipines? All i read is that an naval ship was gonna dock in there. If we are ill be the first one to go!!

I think it is pointing to the potential build-up. I don't know if we want to push too much against the Chinese, but we do need to show that we won't back down. It appears that many in the Philippines would like to see us again simply based on economic reasons.

Well if thats the case then sign me up! I think we are creating a new buffer zone and the philipines is the perfect place for said buffer zone against china meddling.

18 mos. there, good location for observing the Activities in the South China Seas. With Massive Clean-up (Toxic Hot Spots) Subic Bay could be reactivated offering a DEEP bay, and a large Area Ship repair facility. Could be a WIN for the United States and an economic and security Win for the Philippines. Structures, and roads are probably still intact but per the GAO, clean-up would be "superfund" in cost.. so the Government may choose a different location..

SSgt (Join to see) you seem bright and long-minded, but with budget constraints and other obligations we are waning as a naval force and the Chinese are waxing. We are also heavily economically tied to the Chinese.........it may be better that we accept that they will be the next super-power/world-police and negotiate a better position for mutual benefit. Let China rise, become their ally, strike our philosophical differences, and rise with them.

Times have changed. Media coverage and democratic values are polluting the ability for WWIIesque personnel of all ranks to be effective. We cannot support a commander of their like in current situations.

He is busy abandoning an entire Army corps to death and torture at Bataan despite their pleading for more material to prepare for defense and preparing his look of confusion and exasperation to why they are in such a state when the japanese attack. He is then plotting his traitorous pardoning of Japanese war criminals who murdered and tortured American GI's. Hero? He was a big name who gave flashy speeches, nothing more.. much like our president.

Repeated it in Korea too ... he and General Almond were more interested in self-promotion and "yes men" only rather than prepping the troops. After pulling off the landing at Inchon (after General Walker had somehow held the line, giving him time) and reversing the war, he and almond ignored repeated snippets of intel that the Chinese were becoming increasingly alarmed as the UN approached the Yalu River.

1. The Philippines is calling uncle
2. They also want to negotiate the highest price for the leases
3. The influx of income to the surrounding bases is invaluable
