I have two study guide SIFT books, I’ve noticed in both of them that there is no clear direction when it comes to the information it’s trying to throw at you. There’s no guidelines. However, I’ve been just learning terminology, control names and other minor things like that for right now until I get a test date (test dates are usually 3-6mo out where I am) then I’ll start hitting the books hard. Is there a decent guideline that someone used that could work?

SIFT is similar to the ASVAB as for what you can expect, minus differences in subjects. If you have a few study guides, then you'll be fine. You can also google sift practice tests and get a general idea of how you'll do. Once you have a solid date, I'd study hard a month out.
