I'm told that I will be PCSing to Italy at the end of the year. I will be at Camp Ederle or up in Aviano AB. My wife is a new BSN Nurse. How do the hospitals/clinics operate in Italy for spouses to work at? I imagine that she will need to do 1 year of volunteering on post since most DoD hospitals require a year in the field first. Where can she volunteer or do a training program at these posts?

sounds like the Germany side. PM or hit me up on outlook. [login to see] . I will introduce you guys to the Deputy Chief Nurse at the CSH and hopefully get you connected to the LRMC side of the house.

MSG (Join to see) Forgive my ignorance on Europe, but isn't the LRMC in Germany? I will be in Italy, but I am not sure which hospitals are there. I am told its a small clinic at Camp Ederle but that the Air Force has a bigger medical center in Aviano, Italy. I can't find too much about it on Google yet for either of the two posts in Italy.

Yes, LRMC is in Germany. However, Regional Health Command-Europe (RHCE) oversees all Army for Europe. The foot in the door is through LRMC for me. I just was hoping to get you started somewhere. My experience with job hunting in Europe is to get as many feelers out as possible. It's a small (and getting smaller) community out here.

My fiancé just got stationed at Aviano. I’m a new graduate nurse, and would like to continue working while he is stationed there. Would you be able to send me some information? I would really appreciate it.

Alexis Lamie So I ended up getting stationed about 1.5hours south in Vicenza. The laws for the status of forces agreement out government with Italy prevent dependents from working off post. However, you are allowed to work on post. As a new graduate, you may have to volunteer on post and work for free for a few months to a year in order to wait for a slot to open. This is obviously not prefered, but is very common on the posts in Italy. The volunteer hours will let you maintain your license while trying out different departments in the hospital/clinic. Most of the nurses in Vicenza had to volunteer for roughly one year before finding a paying job. However, Aviano has a bigger medical facility, so you might have a shorter wait period. Good luck with the process and feel free to ask any more questions once you get closer to arriving so I can have my wife give you all the info you need.

I am sorry I am late to the party. But we just found out that my husband is getting stationed in Aviano in June. I have been a nurse for a year and 6months and wanted to hear how your process was and if you have any suggestions? Thank you so much for your help. I would love to work on base and continue my career as a nurse. Any suggestions will be so helpful!
