Where are great locations to live and advance your career if you love the outdoors, remote/country areas?

I've been told many times that Colorado is a great place. What are some others? In the USA? Outside America?
I'm interested in full-time career paths within the I.T. sector.

If you're looking for a career in IT and love the outdoors, Western Washington and Oregon are fantastic. The greater Seattle area is only a 30 minute drive outside untouched wilderness in the Cascades, which are in my opinion the most beautiful in the nation.

My dad was stationed at NAS Sandpoint in Seattle while I was 6-10 year old. Thought it was going to be great when I got myself stationed at Marine Barracks Bangor across the Puget Sound. It was beautiful, but I forgot the rain. As a grunt I spent enough time in the rain on duty, didn't much feel like it off duty.
Honestly if you are willing to commute, believe it or not, I recommend one of the posts near metro DC, just live 30-45 minutes west of the westernmost or southernmost metro station.
Also look at Camp Grayling in Northern Michigan.

Arizona is a great place to live for all of those reasons! The desert is surprisingly very diverse and we also have plenty of mountains.

SGT (Join to see) - Well Tucson is home to Ratheon and Boeing has offices in Phoenix area. I'm sure there are more in either area that I don't know about.

As TSgt Steve Waide said, Raytheon Missile Systems is based out of Tucson, so a lot of jobs there.
I also did a quick Google search and Indeed lists a lot of sysadmin jobs:
http://www.indeed.com/q-System-Administrator-l-Tucson,-AZ-jobs.html
Disregard the link, it appears to not have saved my search string. But go to Indeed and type in Linux Systems Administrator and Tucson, AZ for location. It lists about 14 positions. But there are also a lot of contract positions that aren't normally listed on Indeed. Do you have a current Secret clearance?

PO1 John Miller - Isn't Tucson also the center of the universe for scientific grade optics. Seems like they would need high-speed, low drag, computer types.

Could be, I would have to look that up. But there are a lot of IT jobs just at the University of Arizona alone so that could very well be true.

Washington State.... My lord the amount of positions up here is ridiculous... At Amazon at least, every single SDE manager has an ad for open positions. Plus you're about 30 minutes away from the mountains and two hours away from the rain forest... And two hours away from the desert haha.

SGT (Join to see) - Absolutely my man, I can talk to my manager. Are you strictly IT or would you want to move to development? I can get someone today to give you a call for Software development
