I've only deployed once and when I did I performed convoy security. When not on mission I was fortunate to have a fair amount of free time. Even on mission when we arrived at a FOB we had little to do unlike the 88Ms we escorted. That left me with the option of coming home weighing 300lbs or benching 300lbs.
I went over on the heavy side, and given all the temptations to eat like an animal I manged to lose 45lbs and keep it off ever since.

So a little honesty from my brothers and sisters. Was it the gym or chow hall/KFC/Burger King/ Green Bean/ and so on......

Sorry for those of you that deployed before all the amenities were added.

SFC Paul P., the one time I deployed, we did have a gym and I spent more time there than I did in the chow hall. In those days though, weight was not a problem at all, so I could have eaten food, food, and more food ... and probably still been good to go.

It's nice to be young. My 51 year old metabolism needs to be constantly pushed to keep the pounds off.

After three straight weeks weighing in at 150 the 1st shirt said "Porter we are going to put some weight on you. He gave me a chow pass to eat a second full supper meal after 2200. He also ordered me to drink at least 2 beers a day. Well I weighted in the next week (after eating 4 meals a day and drinking at least 2 beers a day) I weighted in at 145.

He took my late supper chow pass!!!!
