When the Army told me that I had life insurance and needed to fill out a form saying who would get the money if the Army got me killed.

Cpl Vic Burk - At 19 years old and on my way to war that was a distinct possibility.

In boot camp we were "forced" to get it but I didn't really think seriously about it until I got married and wanted to make sure my wife would be ok if something happened to me. As my children came along I increased the value accordingly. I took out whole life policies when my children were born. I don't want to collect on it! I wanted them to have a nest egg in place for when they retire or a cheaper rate if they need it later in life. Life insurance is cheapest if you buy it while they are young and no known health problems are in place which could jack up the rates substantially in some cases.
