Question keeps circulating as to if the class B's tropical uniform can be worn year round or only during hot weather months? And are ribbons required or optional. Please advise!

AR 670-1 doesn't specify it, as far as I can tell, but DA Pam 670-1 does have the following:
"13–6. General guidelines
a. When a specific service uniform is not prescribed for formations or other occasions when uniformity in appearance is not required, Soldiers may wear the Class A or any of the variations of the Class B uniform, with the accessories authorized for these uniforms."

So, bottom line: If the boss directs, wear that. Otherwise, it's your call. When in doubt, it's safer to err in the direction of Class A.

As for ribbons, 13-6e says:
"e. The service dress tropical uniform (Class B with ribbons) is an equivalent Class A or dress uniform for hot weather wear. [...] In lieu of wearing all authorized ribbons, Soldiers have the option of wearing only three authorized ribbons. Selected ribbons must be worn in order of precedence (for example, Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart)."

Now, to me, that is pretty clear that ribbons must be worn, but it gives you the ability to simplify down to 3 of your choice if you want. But, here's the thing: Service Dress Tropical is *defined* as "Class B with ribbons," which implies that a Class B *without* ribbons is something that exists -- just not as a replacement to situations where Class A would have been mandatory if not for hot weather.

MAJ (Join to see) - that's IF the tropical variant of the uniform is the prescribed uniform of the day, sir.
One does not get to just decide they are feeling Tropical that day and just wear top 3 to the in ranks inspection...

The commander specifies the uniform. I'm sure your CSM will tell you if you don't know.
