I've been on a run around for the last two years here at Joint Base San Antonio when it comes to the attempts to update my ERB for the MSG board that is approaching fast. Last year I spent four months in the process, with over 40 working hours in attempts to run throught the policy here in updating my file. The policy wanted me to hand my updates to my local admin person, they had it to the company, company to BDE S-1, and BDE S1 to the post records who updates the file. I eventually complained enough about it that BDE S1 starting taking appointments. Now I have one person to go through and do not have any direct connection (face to face) with the person to actually update the record (remember this is for my MSG board). So I have to inturn explain the issues to one person and they pass on my record and issues along with lets say 12-15 at time as files are turned over to the post records every other day... or so, just whenever they get enough to take the trip up there.
I understand that perhaps there is a large population of senior non-coms here, but I also see any officer, having the available time, to update their file as many times as they want with the post records clerk. remember the officer population is huge here also from junior to general officers.
I'm trying to understand the fairness in this. Take this into consideration, the pick up rate from MAJ to LTC in the Medical Corp is around 46 percent. The pick up rate for Medical Enlisted Corps is 10 percent from SFC to MSG.
Question is the fairness in the policy, as I've addressed this with IG and a two star level CSM. Nothing has changed and I'm not sure the next best step to effect policy, besides going to the post three star level CSM and asking what they have to say about it.

So update I'm currently preparing to meet with the BDE S-1. I've decided this year to do a power point presentation with regulations and evidence based information to get my record updated correctly. One issue I had last year is some military schools (AARTS slotted schools were not put on my record, because 40 hours wasn't on the certificate) are not being added.
I'm still curious the best course of action to encourage a policy change, as interaction with the person that wrote the policy didn't work well last year.

I'm confused as to why your BN S-1 is not doing your records update??

Looking at your duty title tells me that maybe you work directly for the BDE? Which they should be the ones updating your records and not some post office (my thoughts anyways). When I was in an Infantry BN, they set time aside when boards were approaching and you could go with updates and personally sit down and watch the BN S-1 make the changes. Here in Ft Lee (CASCOM) is no different. I go to the S-1 and sit down and watch them make changes to me records. If something needs to be done at a higher level then I witness them calling the Soldier Support Center (next higher for us) and talk to the person, or I get the name of the person and contact them directly myself.

As to the schools, there is a list (I will see if I can find it again) that tells you exactly what can go on the ERB. Every school, regardless of 40 hours or not, can be and should be uploaded to your OMPF though.

In my opinion and experience, the way I described IS the best way to do these updates. I would probably talk to my CSM about the policy if it does not afford you the opportunity to sit down with the person correcting your records. Just does not make sense to me to not be able to.
