I have eaten some weird things while on active duty and would like to see who else has done the same.

cactus (taste like unripe water melon mixed with unripe banana). We also had lizard soup, and road kill .
Hint, when you go into a night op. cut open a chemlight and pour around the road kills. When you come back (within 3 hrs) anything that doesn't have an oily glow is fresh meat- bon apitite

Loading stores onboard a submarine I seen meat that said it was rejected by the prison system. So I guess we had it for midrats.

While on KP duty at Fort Hood, Tx I helped unload the frozen meat supply truck in 1979. There were more than 25 boxes that weighed about 50 lbs marked with large letters on the outside, HORSE MEAT, not for human consumption. I had a talk with my 1SG and Company Commander about it. They both said I was lying the DFAC would never serve such a thing. Yup, I bet they did serve it.

Dried squid in Thailand. Stationed at Utapao on the gulf of Siam. Tasted great if you like a real fishy taste.

I am sure I ate some dog meat in ROK; my Korean friends only wanted me to be more virile, I guess. The spicy bean curd sauce made it more palatable, as well as the multiple glasses of soju.
