What was that one thing your Drill SGT told you that you will never Forget?

DS (SFC) Roland, 6' 6", 245 lbs. (and not an ounce of fat on him) said one of the most memorable and smartest things I've ever heard:
"Privates, I hope you joined for the right reasons 'cause the Army ain't easy and no matter how much you love the b***h, she ain't ever going to love you back."

-- "Privates, look around you. Most of you will go to war, some of you will not come back. Don't get too close"
-- When a soldier couldn't pass a PT test but could shoot 40/40 everytime, soldiers would point out the fact that he was fat and a DS overheard this and said, " I would take a fat guy that can shoot over a skinny guy that can run, ANY day!"
-- "Never lose your weapon!"

SSG Jason Deters
On a quiet Sunday afternoon approximately 4 weeks into Basic Training, my Drill Sergeant was on duty and he and I had an interesting conversation... He spoke, I replied with a lound and thunderous "HOOAH Drill Sergeant"
"PVT Deters, in the Army, EVERYONE is a leader.... even YOU. There are only 2 differences between you and I or you and the Commander with regards to leadership - Rank and experience. There will be many times when you will be compelled to make leadership decisions even as a Private. When preparing for that decision remember this: Only make decisions that can be enforced with your current rank or experience. ~ DS Roland - FT Jackson SC, 1998
From that day until final Pass and Review, DS Roland would periodically say "2 Differences PVT Deters!" Oh and did I mention that on this particular Sunday afternoon I was promoted from "You" or "Hey You" to PVT Deters?
