Per the Air Guard website (https://www.goang.com/faq.html - search "ROTC") certain states have a SMP program for AFROTC+AG similar to the Army's.

Can someone please let me know what states have this option? Or is it up to each individual command?

I've looked before and as far as I can find, SMP is strictly an Army program. If that isn't correct, I hope someone will provide a correct link, because that question gets asked here fairly often.

Contact the webpage admin and they can tell you. I have found that any state with and air guard and AFROTC det can do it. Contact AFROTC dept where you would like to go to school!

Thank you, the college ROTC office I talked with had zero idea. I'm guessing the ANG handles the SML side?

Do you happen to know the benefits if the SMP? Is it like Army where if I'm already ROTC contracted I won't go to basic (since it would delay my schooling) and I'm I'm a non-deployable status?

SMP is something that the AFROTC office Admin should know. You can also contact an ANG recruiter to ask too.

You can either enlist in the ANG and then become a cadet at the AFROTC det, or enlist specifically as an Cadet for AFROTC.

Drawbacks to SMP-if you do the enlist first then if you are non select for advanced course you become an airman for 4-6 years (contract dependent) in the AFSC you enlisted for. If you go in on a cadet contract you would do the same but an AFSC they would like you to fill. If you do an SMP you are obligated to first be a ANG officer. You can request AD but it isn’t a guaranteed release from ANG

Benefits-you get to accrue time in service for pay. You get to drill monthly and do your AT getting paid E5 pay while an SMP. You gain skills and exper once while being in a unit as a Cadet that can translate to better performance as a Cadet and better potential Officer area (we call it branch in Army, AF I am sure calls it something else)

If you need the money, experience and want to go ANG it is a great program. If you want Active, don’t need the money, just compete and earn a Cadet Contract and commission as an Actuve Duty Officer :)
