Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein... Don't judge it because of the movie, I promise they are unrelated.

All time favorite book...I had to read it through a few times, as I found myself skipping through to the good parts.. then, when I had a chance to slow down and really dive into the story. The moral and philosophical discussions the main character relates throughout the various schools/academies he attends are the true jewels of the novel.

Never has a book been so outstanding and its translation to big screen been so unbelievably horrible. Love the book. The Constitution should be amended to make voting a privilege for those who served as it was in the book.

Art of War - SUN TZU. I know it is not a new approach, but really this is a great book and needs to be understood. Another great book is ON WAR: The Classic Book of Military Strategy by General Carl Von Clausewitz. Now neither may seem to be about leadership, but really both are nothing but. If you understand the philosophy than you understand the basic leadership they both talk about. Time has not really changer the methods of leadership from then to now, just the way it is implemented. The best one I've found The Art of War, will have to read these other titles now that I've got names for more books. TAOW is definitely a classic, and surprisingly accurate & viable even now. Even though it was written so long ago.

This is totally corny, but I find a lot of comfort and guidance in FM 6-22 and I keep it on my iPad.<br>

This is a good answer, SFC! I was wondering when someone would say this!
I don't keep it on my Tablet, but I have read it a few times when preparing for a board.
