I've been in for almost 11 years and the last 4 of those have been as a 15T and I love it. It can be tedious sometimes but it does set you up to get into a pretty good civilian career field or even a transition to the Guard or Reserves. Guard and Reserve units are always looking for full-time maintainers... some places more than others of course.

Getting into a flight company can happen quick or it can take a while. It was only a matter of months for me because there was a deployment and they needed Crew Chiefs/Door Gunners. My prior service and deployments as a MP and a Cav Scout helped me get my foot in the door with that because I already had the experience with ROE and all that other business.

All in all, it's definitely worth making the switch. Get the time in. Get your A&P certifications. Set yourself up to potentially make big bucks going that route.

We would have some come strait from AIT to a flight company it just kind of depends on the chain of command if you can get an up slip and some times if you have a security clearance

Worked with plenty of Tangos. Getting into a flight company can be quick or long. Sometimes it's based on a need for personnel and sometimes it's a need for experience. I've seen privates fresh out of AIT go right to a flight company, and/or experience pulled from Delta Company and slid over. Not all Tangos want to crew believe it or not. So if that's someone's goal, they have to put the effort forward and stand out from their peers
