I am scheduled to PCS to Fort Bragg in less than two weeks. I understand a duty station is what you make of it however I have not heard many positive things about Bragg. So can anyone tell me what is good about Bragg?

LOL - In reference to that statement "sweet, friendly and slow atmosphere of Fort Riley" as a former BRO Sergeant Major some of my brethren may find faults with that statement. But good luck and yes deep breaths help. Let us know a year from know how you still feel, it would be interesting to see.

ha - CSM, I have to second her comment... but I wasn't here from 04-12 when things were a little mo' busy! This is a nice change of pace.

I'm actually ready to come back now. It was fun for the 27 hours I've been here but...I'm more of the sweet, polite Fort Riley type. I'm sure our branch manager will understand...
*fingers crossed*

I have a lot of friends assigned to Fort Bragg who really enjoy it there. Go in without pre-conceived notions and enjoy the move and new duty station!!!

That is so true, because when I went to Little Rock I was disappointed but after living there, I really did enjoy it. Hot yes, but many things to do and I agree those notions can be insidious and taint our experiences.

After reading the other reviews, which are closer to what I've been told all along, I think I'll stick with MSG Stankovich's advice and go in without any preconceived notions except for the warnings against Fayetteville lol. I will definitely heed their warnings! Thanks so much!

I loved my Ft Bragg days... albeit years ago when I was a PFC/SPC, but would gladly go back. Fayetteville is a different story... the only good thing to come out of that town is I-95, lol.

To say it's been a huge adjustment from my last duty station, Fort Riley, is certainly an understatement. God sent me a few more guardian angels to handle this place lol.

I just left there SGT Woods. For truth you will run into a LOT of people that say there's nothing to do there, but that's simply because, IMO, they chose crappy circles to run with. Link up with the BOSS-they're always throwing huge functions, eating and going SOMEWHERE! Use your facebook page now and "like" pages like City of Fayetteville, what's Happening in Fayetteville, and Fourth Friday Downtown Fayetteville, so you'll be in the know. (I met a few people who'd been there for 6+ years and never participated in anything downtown- uugghhh). Events GALORE. Also like the United Way page and keep up with any and all volunteer things ongoing. If you're looking for a church, I'd say click into Manna on Cliffdale-decent and very very active on the military side. I was never bored at Bragg, Raleigh's a little over an hour away (I mean who can get bored when the Cheesecake Factory is just that close??) and then Charlotte's 3 hours... I find that if you remain in the confines of the barracks and twiddle your Xbox and PS thumbs then yes, yes you could be a bit bored. Good luck and have fun!! and please get with GOOD CIRCLE!

Wow thank you so much SSG! Such stellar and specific advice, I really appreciate it! I'll definitely check out that church as well. Now I'm excited to PCS lol.

and unsure if you have kids, but if you do you may fair better with the onpost schools. Good off post schools are a bit far out, so you'll have to calculate your commute with getting the kiddos off in time. Onpost housing (Pope side) wasn't bad at all, I wouldn't dare to stay on the Bragg side (just my preference). Better schools are Max Abott, Terry Sanford, Jack Britt, Massey Hill just to name a few..... and no worries, if you need answers to anything I didn't mention just shoot me an email.

SSG Best, I must admit I myself didn't know all that was going on downtown Fayetteville. I confine myself to church functions, Raleigh and seeing my family lives in Jacksonville NC I go home often. Trust me, I will be looking for those downtown events.
